Biography

Dana Zámečníková́ was born in Prague in 1945. She studied architecture at the Czech Technical University before studying stage design under Josef Svoboda at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. She began painting on glass in 1973; by 1980, she was working exclusively in the medium of glass. Her works are held by a number of museums, including The Corning Museum of Glass, the Victoria and Albert, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Dana Zámečníková́ is married to fellow glass artist Marian Karel.

Scope and Contents In anticipation of writing an article about Czech glass artists Marian Karel and Dana Zámečníková́, Henry R. Frankel recorded interviews with Karel and Zámečníková́ in 1996.
