Carder, Cyril Frederick

Cyril Frederick Carder was born in England in 1893 or 1894. He was the son of Frederick Carder, founder of Steuben Glass Works, and as such he came to the United States with his family in 1903. Cyril Frederick Carder served as an officer in the U.S. Army during the First World War and was killed in action in France in 1918.

Scope and Contents This collection consists of 38 personal notebooks that belonged to Frederick Carder. These notebooks document Carder’s recipes for making different types of glass, his general observations on glassmaking during his travels, his training in art and science, and his ideas for glass designs, techniques and equipment.
