Biography
Macbeth Daylighting Co., Inc., also known as Macbeth Artificial Daylighting Company, was founded in 1915 in New York City by Norman Macbeth, a lighting engineer. The company specialized in lighting fixtures that simulate daylight for use in stores, hospitals, art studios, and other facilities requiring excellent lighting. in 1965, the company merged with Kollmorgen Instruments Corporation, and in 1970, the merged entity acquired Munsell Color Company, a color calibration and standardization enterprise. After several more mergers and buy-outs, the company may be considered an ancestor of the present-day firm X-Rite.

This collection consists primarily of black and white photographic prints of lighting products produced and sold by the Macbeth Daylighting Co., Inc. More than half of the images depict lamps and other lighting fixtures. Other images in the collection show the lamps and lighting fixtures in use, often by men and women in professional settings.
