Biography

H. P. Sinclaire & Co. was founded in 1904 in Corning, New York, by H. P. (Henry Purdon) Sinclaire Jr. Like many others in the glass industry, Sinclaire got his start at another company before setting off on his own. In this case, it was T. G. Hawkes & Co. Having a combination of business acumen and glass cutting skills, Sinclaire was able to successfully run his company until his death in 1927. H. P. Sinclaire & Co. specialized in glass engraving, although it sold undecorated colored glass and other simple glass products as the market for engraved glass declined. After H. P. Sinclaire's death in 1927, the company was unable to continue and went out of business shortly thereafter.
