Biography
Thomas Evans & Co. was formed in 1869 and became one of the largest producers of glass lamp chimneys (for kerosene lamps). In 1899, Thomas Evans merged with another Pittsburgh-based competitor, the George A. MacBeth Co. The new company, called the MacBeth-Evans Glass Company, was later purchased by Corning Glass Works in 1937.
